The board began advertising for retired teachers last week. Outdated MFJCTO General Secretary Anil Deshmukh, said, &ldquo;I do not understand how the board is going to get retired teachers to fill the empty slots left by a lot of examiners and moderators who have refused to correct papers. The retired teachers would not be aware of the new syllabus. The board will hardly get a handful of them considering our organisation has the backing of Maharashtra State Junior College Teachers Association who believes that our demands are just.&rdquo; Members of the Maharashtra State Retired Junior College Teachers Association (MSRJCTA) said it would be best if the state settled the issue rather than search for alternative measures to have the papers assessed. &ldquo;Teachers who have taught the students would be ideal to assess their papers. Their demands are pending for over a decade now and the state needs to take the matter seriously. Our organisation has over 3,500 retired teachers and none of us would step up to assess the papers,&rdquo; said MSRJCTA secretary Mukund Andhalkar. The members are hopeful that a solution to this issue should come out soon as the Assembly session is scheduled to begin from next week. When contacted MSBSHSE chairman Sarjerao Jadhav, he said, &ldquo;We are looking for only those teachers who have retired around a couple of years ago. Also, they would be given model answers by the board. Our aim is to bring out results on time so that students aren&rsquo;t inconvenienced. We&rsquo;re hopeful of a settlement between teachers and the state shortly.&rdquo; When asked about the number of retired teachers who have come forward to help the board assess the HSC exam papers, Jadhav said that it is too early to comment as the advertisement was published only a few days ago.u00a0
