19-yr-old hit with stump as cricket match turns ugly

Au00a0game of cricket turned ugly when a petty quarrel between the two teams led to a 19-year-old man being hit with a stump. The Wanawadi police arrested two brothers for attempting to murder Nikhil Ramesh Gade, a Cantonment resident. The arrested men were identified as Rahul (26) and Kamlesh Kale (24), residents of Nana Peth.

The police said Gade's condition was serious and he was admitted to a private hospital. The incident took place on Sunday morning, when a Nana Peth team was playing the match with a Camp squad at a ground near the turf club. In the last over, the Nana Peth team was poised to win when a Camp supporter who was notu00a0 playing took a catch. Aheated argument ensued over this. The police said three people beat up Nikhil with stumps and bats.

"It is very unfortunate as they fought over a petty amount of prize moneyu00a0-- just Rs 51," Police Inspector Ajit Khadake (Crime) said. "Eyewitnesses have also named one Nana, who is absconding."
