The Department of Posts on Tuesday launched a new premium express delivery service, ‘24 Speed Post’, offering guaranteed next-day delivery for urgent consignments across six major cities.
According to news reports, the service was inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani at Rang Bhawan Auditorium, Akashwani Bhawan in New Delhi.
In the first phase, the service will be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, as per the reports.
Alongside this, the department has also introduced a ‘48 Speed Post’ option, ensuring a D plus 2 (two-day) delivery timeline through dedicated processing and priority air transmission.
According to the India Post, the upgraded services come with features such as OTP-based secure delivery, end-to-end tracking with SMS alerts, and a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) facility for business users.
Bulk customers will benefit from free pickup, API integration and centralised billing, making the service more efficient for e-commerce and corporate clients.
The department has also announced a money-back guarantee in case of delivery delays, aiming to strengthen its premium express delivery services.
Mumbai gets its first Gen Z–themed Post Office at IIT Bombay
Earlier in 2025, Mumbai became home to its first-ever Gen Z–themed Post Office when India Post inaugurated a modern postal facility at the IIT Bombay campus on December 18, 2025, at 11 am.
The new Post Office was designed specifically for young people, students, and digital natives, offering a technology-driven, youth-friendly postal experience as part of India Post’s wider effort to modernise services and engage with the younger generation. Similar Gen Z-themed Post Offices had already been launched in Delhi, Kerala, Gujarat, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh.
Modern design meets functionality at Mumbai Gen Z Post Office
The Mumbai facility featured a cool, contemporary, and creative design, developed by India Post’s in-house team in collaboration with IIT Bombay students. The space combined modern aesthetics with functional public services, creating a welcoming environment for users.
Key facilities included free Wi-Fi, cafeteria-style seating, a mini library, a music corner, curated philately products, and a Parcel Gyan Post to educate visitors about parcel and logistics services. All services were delivered through fully digital, QR-based systems.
The Post Office also offered Aadhaar enrolment and update services, guidance on Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) schemes, and discounts to encourage student participation: 10 per cent off Speed Post services and 5 per cent off for bulk parcels.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle, Kaiya Arora, Director of Postal Services, Mumbai Region, and the Registrar of IIT Bombay, along with India Post officials, staff members, and the IIT Bombay community.
By transforming the traditional post office into a vibrant community space, India Post demonstrated its goal of balancing heritage with innovation, officials said.
