3 held for alleged conversions

The HAL Airport police on Sunday arrested three persons on charges of proselytism.

The trio, including a woman, was trying to convert residents of the area to another religion,u00a0 by luring them with better job opportunities.

Police arrested the three accused Rama Reddy (26) of Andhra Pradesh, Mike Barabas (35) and his wife Asmira Barbas of Karwar fromu00a0 Murugeshpalyau00a0 based on a complaint. Prabhod Kumar Das, a resident of Murugeshpalya complained that they were trying to convert the locals on Sunday morning.

'Your God not real'

One of the residents said, "The three were trying to convince us that our religion and God were not real and we have suffered enough being part of this religion. They even said our God was responsible for our poor condition."u00a0

The trio promised them a better life overseas if they converted to their religion. "Theyu00a0 even said they wouldu00a0 support us financially."

As they tried to approach a bigger group, the locals held them and handed them over to the Airport police.

Books, handouts and other materials used for conversion were seized from the accused.
