Yakshagana: Vidyunmati Kalyaana

On: November 15, 3 pm at Prithvi Theatre, Janki Kutir, Juhu. Call: 26149546.
What is it about: Like most Yakshagana performances, this too has its share of twists. Devendra's son Jayanta visits the celestial gardens with angels and falls in love with Vidyunmati, daughter of Gandharva king, Sulochana. The king refuses to let Jayanta marry his daughter, which leads to Jayanta being imprisoned and a battle ensues.
Why should you watch it: Yakshagana is a popular folk tradition from Karnataka and is performed across the state by professionals and amateurs. The actors in this production are volunteers who live near Heggodu Village, who have experimented with the concept in their own way since they aren't "professional actors".
Quote: "Yakshagana is a string of dance and musical pieces, which are sung by the main singer. The song and dance sequences are followed by dialogues by the actors which takes the play forward," says Akshara K V, producer.

Teri Bhi Chup Meri bhi Chup
On: November 15, 7.45 pm at Sophia Hall, Sophia College Campus, Cumballa Hill. Call: 23538550.
What is it about: Mr Khote and Mr Khare are business partners but while one is a philander the other is not so worldly wise. Things come to a head when Mr Khote meddles in his partner's home and business affairs.
Why should you watch it: This play, directed by Dinyar Contractor, comes with a Statutory Warning: Please fasten your seatbelts or you'll find yourself rolling in the aisles with laughter.
Quote: "In past 42 years of my theatre career, I haven't come across actors of the calibre of Ali Asgar and Swapnil Joshi. This play provides pure entertainment that'll drive away your blues," says Contractor.
