File Pics After the junior college teachers refused to assess examination papers for the state board exams, members of the Bombay University College Teachers&rsquo; Union (BUCTU) commenced their own protest by boycotting practical exams for TYBSc, causing distress to students. During the meeting, Thackeray requested Sankaranarayanan to end students&rsquo; troubles by holding a dialogue with the striking professors and state officials. Thackeray said that governor expressed concern over the ongoing tussle between the two parties and said he would look into the matter. He said he was hopeful that the governor&rsquo;s intervention would break the deadlock between the professors and the state. Officials from the governor&rsquo;s officer confirmed that Thackeray met Sankaranarayanan. They said soon after the meeting, Sankaranarayanan called Higher Education Minister Rajesh Tope and requested him to take up the issue in the state cabinet. Sankaranarayanan also assured Thackeray that he would speak to the chief minister and try and put an end to the dispute soon. BUCTU Vice-president Dr Rohini Sivabalan said, &ldquo;The boycott of degree examinations is still on and it has completed one month today. Female professors in the city have decided to congregate at Azad Maidan on March 8 for a Jail Bharo protest as professors want government to assure them in writing.&rdquo;
