An Air France flight which took off from Bengaluru to Paris was diverted to Turkmenistan on Tuesday early morning due to an engine issue with the aircraft, news agency PTI reported.
An airline spokesperson said, "The aircraft landed normally at Ashgabat Airport at 3:37 am local time. ”
However, all flight's passengers were left stranded at the airport in Turkmenistan for more than 15 hours, PTI reported.
An official statement issued by the airline said, "Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF191A on January 12, 2026, operating from Bangalore to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, decided to divert to Ashgabat Airport (Turkmenistan) due to a technical incident (an issue with one of the aircraft's two engines), in accordance with company instructions and the manufacturer's procedures."
According to information available on one of the flight tracking websites, the flight was operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft, which departed Bengaluru at 11.32 pm (Indian Standard Time) on Monday.
Air France further emphasised, "A special flight, AF386V, is currently en route to Ashgabat. It will depart for Paris later today, with arrival estimated at 02.40 a.m. (local time) on January 14, 2026. These times are subject to change."
The details about the total number of passengers onboard the flight are not available.
The airline also said that due to Turkmenistan's entry requirements, passengers and crew initially waited on board the aircraft.
Air France, while regretting the inconvenience caused by the situation to the passengers on board, said, "Once disembarkation was possible, they were assisted by airport staff. Accommodation in hotels near the airport was made available to them."
Air India flight diverted to Jaipur due to medical emergency
An Air India flight from Delhi to Vijayawada was diverted to Jaipur due to a medical emergency on Monday, PTI reported, quoting a source.
An elderly passenger fell unwell onboard flight AI2517, following which the flight was diverted to Jaipur, where the passenger was disembarked and taken to hospital, the source stated.
While there was no official comment from Air India, the information available with flight-tracking websites showed that the plane was operated with an A320 aircraft.
