The Indian Army has established a three-tier robotic counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, reported ANI.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, an Indian Army officer said troops stationed along the LoC have been tasked with ensuring that no infiltration takes place.
"Our task as the troops deployed on the ground is to establish, maintain, and ensure zero infiltration and create a zero infiltration grid in this area... We do that in three layers," the officer explained.
He described the first layer of defence as an advanced surveillance system comprising radars, thermal imaging devices, weapon and helmet-mounted sights, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), reported ANI.
"We use the plethora of surveillance equipment given to us by the government of India, including radars, various thermal imaging sights, weapon and helmet-mounted sights, and UAVs," he said.
As reported by ANI, the second layer involves an obstacle system made up of different types of mines and optical monitoring devices placed across the area of responsibility.
"Number two is the obstacle system, incorporated into our defences. We have placed various types of mines and optical systems throughout the entire area of responsibility," he told ANI.
The third and final layer consists of soldiers on the ground who conduct regular ambushes and patrols to keep the area under control, reported ANI.
"Number three is us, the men on the ground... We ensure that we send out routine ambushes and patrols to dominate the entire area either physically, by observation, or by fire," he said.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, media personnel were given rare access to witness the Army’s resolve and bravery along the LoC in the remote Sunderbani sector, reported ANI.
According to an official release, the Army’s continuous efforts to adapt, innovate, and integrate new strategies reflect its commitment to maintaining top operational readiness.
Technological upgrades were also showcased, including the Smart Fence System designed to enhance border security and surveillance. The display featured newly introduced assets such as Quadcopters, advanced surveillance tools, bulletproof and all-terrain vehicles, modern weaponry, and night vision sights, demonstrating the Army’s focus on innovation and modern integration.
India will mark its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025.
