A rare Spoon-tailed Duskhawker (Gynacantha basiguttata) dragonfly has been photographed for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh at the Namdapha <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-civic-body-begins-5-3-km-twin-tunnel-excavation-for-goregaon-mulund-link-road-under-sanjay-gandhi-national-park-23645231" rel="nofollow">National Park</a> and Tiger Reserve.
&ldquo;The first photographic record of the rare Spoon-tailed Duskhawker (Gynacantha basiguttata) in Arunachal Pradesh... highlights the extraordinary species diversity that continues to emerge from the state&rsquo;s forests,&rdquo; Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said in a social media post.
The dragonfly was first photographed in October 2024 along the Miao-Vijaynagar Road in the Namdapha landscape. It was initially identified as a different species before subsequent taxonomic verification confirmed it as Gynacantha basiguttata.
The documentation adds another noteworthy species record to India&rsquo;s Odonata checklist, comprising dragonflies and damselflies, while underscoring the vast biodiversity that remains to be scientifically documented in Arunachal Pradesh.
Namdapha, located in Changlang district, is renowned for its rich flora and fauna and continues to yield significant wildlife records.
