For the past few months, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner H Siddhaiah and his team have been drawing flak for the pitiable condition of the roads in the city, but the news about the arrival of Vietnamese President has triggered the civic body, who are now working endlessly to fix every pothole. With the Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang all set to make his way to Bangalore, Siddhaiah has taken stock of the situation and is planning to supervise the repair work himself. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2011/oct/rain.jpg" border="5" /> BBMP commissioner is personally taking stock of the situation and supervising the repair of the roads The commissioner personally inspected and monitored the work from Old Airport Road to Rajbhavan, the stretch that the VIP would travel. H Siddhaiah, commissioner, BBMP, said, "It is a matter of prestige, that is why I have personally inspected the entire stretch from Raj Bhavan to the Old Airport Road, the roads and asphalting work will be done overnight so that no inconvenience is caused to the people.u00a0Once the rains stop, we will repair the roads in other areas as well." The Old Airport Road has been a neglected stretch after flight operations were shifted to BIAL in Devanahalli. Since then, residents and commuters have been complaining about the bad conditions of the roads. The roads are reportedly filled with potholes, there is rainwater andu00a0 garbage accumulation leading to stench in the area. G Anand, a resident, said, "We have been residing here for 10 years. Earlier, the traffic caused problem for us and now the bad roads have worsened the situation. u00a0 It is only when a VIP comes to the city, authorities wake up to address the problem of the citizens. M Chandrappa Reddy, corporator,u00a0 said the rains had affected their agenda. "We had fixed all the roads but rains ruined everything. Further, with the festivals one after another, our labourers have now gone back to their village. We hope to resume work today," said Reddy.
