Beef ban in line with Directive Principles: AG to Bombay HC

The Maharashtra government today contended before the Bombay High Court that its decision to impose a comprehensive ban on beef was in furtherance of the Directive Principles of State Policy enumerated in the Constitution.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra government today contended before the Bombay High Court that its decision to impose a comprehensive ban on beef was in furtherance of the Directive Principles of State Policy enumerated in the Constitution.
Advocate General Srihari Aney, representing the state, also cited a Supreme Court judgement that says that any law which is in line with the Directive Principles should be regarded as having been enacted in the public interest.
