Scientists found the Higgs boson, the most sought-after particle in the history of physics, unleashing a torrent of tweets. A certain Hodgman had this to say: ‘Now that they found the particle, can we finally turn the Large Hadron Collider into a super fast alpine slide or zip line?’ Richard Horton had another point of view: ‘The problem this presents for the Nobel committee is systemic. The best science done today is by teams. The Nobels are outdated.’ In the words of Robert Kosara: ‘The Higgs boson will go down in history as that finding where the slides were all in Comic Sans.’ There was this from Frank Chimero: ‘I love that the Higgs-Boson presentation was in Comic Sans. Science laughs at your desire for order and purpose. Chaos everywhere!’ And from Ed Yong: ‘A Higgs boson walks into a bar. The barman doesn’t understand.’
False alarm
A suspicious item found in a dustbin near Infinity Mall, Andheri, made the mall a trending topic. Someone using the handle Sir Dard tweeted: ‘Infinity Mall claims the bomb was a promotion for its Monsoon Dhamaka sale.’ Rohit Banawlikar added: ‘If Infinity Mall had been blown up by a bomb, Bollywood would have lost 90 percent of its strugglers.’ There was also this comment from Nikhil Udupa: ‘I am in Infinity mall. No evacuation. People are chilling, being their usual overindulgent self. Don’t believe the news.’
