After registering a complaint against Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and JNU student Umar Khalid for their provocative speeches at a Pune-based event on December 31, six members of Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) who organised the event, have now been booked.
On December 31, the event Elgar Parishad was organised to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the battle of Koregaon Bhima at Shaniwarwada, considered the headquarters of the Peshwas in Pune. At this event, both Mevani and Khalid made speeches, for which a complaint was registered against them with the police on January 4.
Late Monday, a complaint was registered with the Vishrambaug police station against Sudhir Dhawale, Sagar Gorkhe, Harshali Potdar, Ramesh Gaichor, Deepak Dhengale and Jyoti Jagtap of KKM. The complaint was registered by Pune-based student Tushar Dhamgude, 22, a resident of Katraj, Pune.
Tushar said, "I learnt about the Elgaar Parishad event and decided to attend it in the hope of learning about history. At the event, however, I heard Mevani make provocative speeches and the organisers were encouraging him. His speech triggered the violence that followed. This is gross misuse of the freedom of speech."
