Sixteen-year-old Salman Pasha is feeling rather light these days. Thanks to the laproscopic gastric sleeve resection surgery at St Philomena's Hospital on July 5, the 165-kg boy lost 40 kg.

His condition worsened after his family took him to a quack who prescribed a herbal preparation. Salman had to discontinue his studies as he became increasingly heavier.

Dr Anand J, consultant, general and laproscopic surgery, St Philomena's, who operated on Salman, said, "Salman has showed marked improvement since we operated on him.

He can finally walk and breathe freely something he was unable to do earlier. I am confident that he will continue to lose weight if he sticks to the diet that I have prescribed for him and continues with physiotherapy sessions."

Today, Salman has a smile on his face because he is able to walk. "I am feeling a bit more comfortable as I am able to walk now, all thanks to the doctors," said Salman.

"I am very happy that my son has reduced around 40 kg. I hope he is able to lead a life like others," said Salman's mother Rehana.

"For the next six weeks, he is allowed to eat food like sambhar-rice and Idli. However, he has to chew the food well before swallowing it.
