BJP leader Smriti Irani praised the NDA government in Bihar for empowering women through schemes like Jan Dhan and Ujjwala, benefiting over 3 crore women. She criticized the RJD for urging the EC to stall welfare benefits amid polls. Meanwhile, foreign diplomats visited Bihar under the ‘Know BJP’ initiative
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani
Former Union minister and a very prominent BJP leader, Smriti Irani, on Tuesday asserted that the NDA government in Bihar uplifted women from the shadow of helplessness and fear.
With just a couple of days left for the Bihar assembly elections, Smriti Irani, while addressing a press conference at Patna, also said that she was pained over the RJD's appeal to the Election Commission to ‘stall’ the benefits of women's welfare schemes in Bihar, reported PTI.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani said that "The 'Jan Dhan Yojana' has benefitted more than 3 crore women in Bihar, and 1.16 crore women have received benefits under the Ujjawala Yojana. We have also seen the fulfilment of the promise of toilets in each household,” as cited by news agency PTI.
“For me, it's a matter of pain that on one hand, the NDA government is directly transferring money into the accounts of women beneficiaries in Bihar, while on the other, RJD leaders have given a written proposal to the EC to stall the benefits,” Irani added.
On the other hand, RJD MP Manoj Jha had written to the EC on October 31, accusing the Bihar government of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by transferring money to women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on October 17, 24 and 31, reported PTI.
Foreign diplomats visit Bihar
Earlier on November 2, a delegation of foreign diplomats from embassies of Japan, Indonesia, Denmark, Australia, the UK, Bhutan, and South Africa began their two-day visit to the state, news agency PTI reported.
The foreign delegation visited Bihar to observe the BJP's election campaign and India's democratic process.
Vijay Chauthaiwale, the BJP's foreign affairs department in charge, while highlighting the foreign delegation's visit to Bihar, said that "The visit under the 'Know BJP' initiative, launched by party president J. P. Nadda, is to familiarise the diplomats with the functioning, outreach and organisational strength of the BJP, as well as to provide an on-ground understanding of India's electoral engagement at the grassroots level," as per PTI.
