The BJP's Maharashtra state unit has set itself a target of at least 50,000 people.

"I want this to be the biggest rally against the UPA government," Gadkari said in Jalgaon yesterday.

The state BJP has asked each district president to reserve at least one train (2,000 passengers in 18 compartments) to transport people to the rally. The cost of each such train adds up to at least Rs 10-12 lakh.

"We will take more than 50,000 people to Delhi from Maharashtra," said Eknath Khadse, senior BJP leader and leader of the Opposition.

While Maharashtra has 35 districts, the party has 56 organisational districts within the state. If the party reserves about 50 trains, expenditure incurred will be about Rs 5-6 crore.

At current prices, this could have provided sugar to 17 lakh people at Rs 35-40 per kg or it could have fetched rice for 25 lakh people.
