In her written complaint she has said that when she was standing at the bus stop, a boy came and tried to snatch her bag and assaulted her. In the tussle, she fell down and raised an alarm. Passersby rushed and caught hold of the boy Velu (20) and handed him over to the police.

Velu was later taken to the High Grounds police station for questioning. In the mean time Saraswathi was taken to the hospital for treatment.

After preliminary investigations Velu is said to be of Vellore from Tamil Nadu. Velu said, "I came to Bangalore in search of a job just two days ago with my friends. They went back and finally I got a mason's job at Madiwala. I don't remember what I did because I was drunk." A case of attempt to robbery and assault has been filed at the High Grounds police station.
