Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday met visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and highlighted the significance of strengthening India-Canada cooperation across trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people ties, news agency ANI reported.

"Welcomed Canada's Foreign Minister, Ms. Anita Anand. Discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, energy, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges for mutual growth and prosperity," PM Modi wrote on social media platform X.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Modi also conveyed warm wishes to his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney and expressed eagerness for future engagements between the two nations.

Prime Minister welcomed Foreign Minister Anand and conveyed that her visit would contribute to ongoing efforts to impart new momentum to the India-Canada bilateral partnership,” the PMO statement read.

Welcoming Anand, he said her visit would inject “new momentum” into bilateral relations, ANI reported.

PM Modi recalled his visit to Canada in June for the G7 Summit, where he held an “extremely productive” meeting with Carney that laid the foundation for expanded collaboration between the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with Anand.

The discussions were described as “constructive” and focused on restoring and reinvigorating mechanisms necessary to advance the partnership, ANI reported.

Both leaders agreed on a comprehensive plan for cooperation and guided the process of re-establishing collaboration between the two nations.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, "Delighted to welcome FM Anita Anand of Canada today in New Delhi. Had constructive discussions to restore and reinvigorate the mechanisms necessary to advance our partnership. Also exchanged views on global developments and agreed on an ambitious cooperation roadmap to rebuild our cooperation in line with our leaders’ expectations and the interests of our people."

Anand is on a diplomatic tour of India, Singapore, and China till Friday to advance bilateral relations and cooperation under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. She arrived in India on Sunday and will continue discussions aimed at expanding collaboration in key sectors, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and strengthening people-to-people links. The visit also seeks to explore new areas for cooperation, including civil nuclear energy, technology partnerships, and joint initiatives in agriculture and education, reinforcing the strategic and long-term ties between the two countries.
