Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala's son Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar were yesterday remanded in two-day police custody by a court here in the alleged stalking and attempt to abduction case of a 29-year-old woman.
Police sought remand of the two accused from the court, saying it wanted to reconstruct the crime scene. Civil judge Barjinder Pal Singh remanded the two accused in police custody till August 12.
The defence submitted that the case is based merely on apprehension of kidnapping, built under pressure.
The two accused were re-arrested on Wednesday after they were charged with a non-bailable offence of attempted abduction under section 365 of the IPC and section 511, which relates to an attempt to commit an offence punishable with life or other imprisonment.
Vikas and Kumar had been arrested on Saturday following the complaint of the woman, daughter of an IAS officer, but released on bail as they had been booked under bailable sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act. The two accused yesterday joined the police investigation at sector 26 police station, where they were grilled and later arrested.
Barala&rsquo;s resignation sought Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Thursday asked for Subhash Barala&rsquo;s resignation after he was accused of using his power to save his son Vikas and Ashish in the case.
&ldquo;He has used his political power and has made effort to save his son. It was the pressure of media and people that accused got arrested. I hope that strictest punishment will be given,&rdquo; she said.
Another stalking incident A woman executive of a BPO at NCR has alleged that she was chased by two unidentified men in a car for more than three kilometres on a lonely stretch of the Delhi-Gurgaon road on Monday night, the police said. The 24-year-old in a complaint filed with the police claimed the two men stalked her when she was on the way home from her Sector 18-located office on a scooter around midnight. The men, who were in a car, chased the complainant "on a lonely stretch of the Delhi-Gurgaon road for three kilometres". They called out to her repeatedly and tried to obstruct her way in a bid to stop her, the police said. The woman said the accused gave up when she approached some passersby for help near the Atul Kataria chowk.
