<p>Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram on Saturday criticised the delay in registering an FIR in connection with the alleged pellet gun injury case involving protester Sahil Lochav.</p>
<p>Chidambaram said it took 30 days and a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/wont-budge-until-fir-rahul-gandhi-stages-sit-in-over-alleged-pellet-gun-attack-on-protester-23645910" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">seven-hour protest by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi</a> for the Delhi Police to register the complaint.</p>
<p>He also said the delay was contrary to the Supreme Court's direction regarding the prompt registration of FIRs.</p>
<p>In a post on X, Chidambaram congratulated Lochav for pursuing his complaint and Rahul Gandhi for what he described as demonstrating the power of satyagraha.</p>
<p>"It took 30 days and a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/photo/in-photos-rahul-gandhi-sits-on-dharna-seeks-fir-over-alleged-pellet-gun-use-in-delhi-112619/3" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">seven-hour dharna by the Leader of the Opposition</a> (LS) to register an FIR in Delhi on a complaint by the victim. This is when the law declared by the Supreme Court is that on every complaint, an FIR must be registered promptly. Congratulations to the victim Mr Sahil Lochab, for his perseverance, and to the LoP, Mr Rahul Gandhi for proving the power of satyagraha," Chidambaram said.</p>

<h2>Delhi Police registers FIR after Rahul Gandhi's protest</h2>
<p>The Delhi Police registered an FIR on Friday in connection with the alleged <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/supreme-court-asks-centre-to-preserve-raf-ammunition-log-in-neet-protest-pellet-gun-case-23642370" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">pellet gun injury case</a> under Sections 118 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).</p>
<p>The FIR was registered after Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in at the Parliament Street Police Station, demanding action on Lochav's complaint.</p>
<p>Lochav had alleged that police had not registered his complaint despite injuries he said he sustained after pellet gun firing during a protest at Connaught Place on July 20.</p>
<p>He claimed that he underwent surgery at AIIMS but continued to experience vision problems.</p>
<h2>Rahul Gandhi cites AIIMS report</h2>
<p>Gandhi, who was accompanied by several Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had questioned the delay in registering the case.</p>
<p>He referred to an AIIMS medical report and alleged that it showed more than 200 shells inside Lochav's body, including three in his eye.</p>
<p>"A pellet gun was used at Connaught Place on 20th July. AIIMS report clearly says that there are more than 200 shells inside his body and 3 in his eye. He has lost vision in that eye. There are shells near his heart that cannot be touched. Delhi Police say they did not fire pellet guns. So, there is just one question: someone must have done it... A crime has indeed happened," Rahul Gandhi said.</p>
<p>Gandhi had demanded that an FIR be registered and said he would remain at the police station until the complaint was formally taken up.</p>
<p>The Congress leader had also accused the Union Home Ministry and Delhi Police of preventing justice in the case.</p>
<h2>Lochav thanks Rahul Gandhi for intervention</h2>
<p>Lochav later thanked Rahul Gandhi for supporting his demand for an FIR.</p>
<p>He said the case might not have been registered without the intervention of the Congress leader.</p>
<p>The Congress has maintained that the alleged use of a pellet gun against a protester requires a formal investigation and that those responsible should be identified.</p>
<h2>FIR registered under two BNS sections</h2>
<p>The case has been registered under Section 118 of the BNS, which deals with voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.</p>
<p>It also includes Section 125, which relates to acts that endanger the life or personal safety of others.</p>
<p>The registration of the FIR follows the political confrontation over the alleged incident, with the Congress demanding an investigation into the circumstances in which Lochav sustained his injuries.</p>
