To ensure that no untoward incidents occur on visarjan day, the PMC has made various arrangements. It has been learnt that about 1,200 civic employees would be working with in three shifts with 450 volunteers from NGO SWaCH, 90 ragpickers and 130 lifeguards from the fire department to ensure incident-free visarjan in the city. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/sep/Ganesh-Visarjan.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 471px;" /> File Pic In addition, the civic body has repaired, cleaned and painted its immersion tanks along the rivers and has also installed nirmalya kalash and garbage bins at various places in the city. &ldquo;We have made arrangements for kalash and containers to collect waste because the amount increases by about 20 to 25 per cent during Ganeshotsav. We have appointed specialised staff to collect waste at the immersion ghats. A team of 1,200 employees will work on visarjan day&rdquo;, Suresh Jagtap, head of the waste management department, said. The civic body has made the above-mentioned arrangements at important locations such as Sangam ghat, Apte ghat, Virdheshwar ghat, Omkareshmwar ghat, Ashtabhuja mandir, Pulachi wadi, Bapu ghat, Vithal Mandir, Garware college, Thosarpaga ghat, Dattawadi ghat, Rajarampool ghat, Aundhgaon ghat, Chima Udyan ghat, Bund Garden ghat and Warje-Karvenagar, among others. Civic officials were supposed to visit these riverside spots yesterday to take stock of the preparations. Chief Fire Officer Prashant Ranpise said the fire department staff was appointed at all these locations, along with 130 lifeguards, for safety of the citizens. In addition, low ropes were strung across the riverbanks to prevent people, who might fall into the river accidentally, from being swept away by the current. Dr S T Pardeshi, PMC medical officer, said, &ldquo;Two mobile clinics will be present for 24 hours on visarjan day. In case of a major mishap or a minor accident, these mobile clinics will be able to provide the patient with the necessary first aid treatment. The vans will be parked in Deccan.&rdquo;u00a0
