MHADA has good news for you this Diwali. According to sources, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has planned to come out with a lottery of nearly 2,450 houses.The houses, located in Virar, were earlier expected to be part of the lottery scheduled for May 31. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/may/Pratiksha-Nagar.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 678px;" /> MHADA buildings at Pratiksha Nagar, Sion. File photo But due to technical problems, the plan of including these houses in the lottery was dropped. However, now senior officers in MHADA say that the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has given its go-ahead for the houses to be included in the lottery later this year. Satish Gavi, VP and CEO of MHADA, confirmed the news to Sunday MiDDay. &ldquo;Yes we are holding a lottery this Diwali,&rdquo; said Gavi. A senior MHADA officer confirming the same said, &ldquo;Earlier this week, we had a review meeting of all the boards. The question about the homes in Virar was raised. It was announced that the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has given its go-ahead to the projects and sent the proposal to the government for further clearances. We are expecting the results to be positive and even the vice president of the authority wants to have a lottery of these homes by Diwali.&rdquo; The construction of the 2,450 homes had to come to a halt because they are nearly 22 storeys tall and thus, invited several complications in terms of permissions. However, now the officers of MHADA claim the corporation has given its nod and they are expecting the government to also follow the municipal corporation and give the required clearances. If the lottery is conducted, it will be the first time MHADA will hold two lotteries within a span of six months. Last year, MHADA had held a joint lottery of the Konkan and Mumbai board. They had the same plan this year too, but because of the technicalities they couldn&rsquo;t involve the homes and carried out a lottery of a mere 1,244 homes then. The demand for MHADA homes is visible from the fact that more than 90,000 people have applied for 1,244 homes. One of the homes in Pratiksha Nagar, Sion got more than 1,500 applications.u00a0
