A month after executive president of Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray was admitted to Lilavati Hospital and operated upon, he made his first public appearance on Monday at the 52nd anniversary of Marmik, Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray’s cartoon weekly. On the attack: After his surgery at Lilavati hospital last month, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray making his first public appearance at the 52nd anniversary of Marmik, Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s cartoon weekly, at Rangsharda, yesterday. Pic/Pradeep Dhivar Perhaps keeping in mind his recent health travails, he started his speech on a low key, but soon gave in to his fiery political temperament and used strong words to condemn the Congress, saying that the government was manned by ‘eunuchs’. He started his speech thanking his supporters. “In spite of doctor’s suggestions that I stay at home, I came out to meet people who have brought me where I am today,” said Uddhav. He soon trained his guns on the Congress-led government. “If the government remains in the hands of the Congress, the country would be doomed. We need change and soon there will be change,” he said. Uddhav added, “We can’t be dependent on this government; we need to be awake, and can’t be silent. Silence is for the dead, revolution is for men. If the government can’t manage Maharashtra, then they should resign and let us handle it. We will fight elections and see how things go. We are ready for any and every situation.” His verbal aggression reached a crescendo when he turned his attention to the recent riots near CST. “Had the protest been conducted by Shiv Sena, would the government have behaved this way too? During Sena’s protests at Maval, Jaitapur or that against power cuts, the government opened fire at us, beat our people, including women and elderly. This government is filled with eunuchs and they can’t do anything,” said Uddhav. He reiterated the communal factor. “If staying in India and talking about Hinduism is communal, then we agree we are communal. But our Hindutva is associated with patriotism. We haven’t forgotten about the Hindus nor have we overlooked the Marathi manoos. We talk about both as and when the need arises,” said Uddhav.u00a0 On Amar Jawan desecration About the desecration of the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial, Uddhav said, “The memorial is in remembrance of two freedom fighters, who lost their lives in the 1857 revolt. Their names are Mangal Gedia and Sayyed Hussain, and both were from Mumbai. Even though one of them was a Muslim, we thought of him not as a member of a particular community, but as a freedom fighter who died for our country. We erected this memorial with the funds of MP Bharat Kumar Raut. These people who desecrated the memorial don’t know this history.”u00a0
