Congress MLA Nitesh Rane was arrested this morning for misbehaving with the fisheries commissioner last week. The Malvan police have registered a case under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
Last week, during a meeting to discuss problems faced by fishermen, Rane allegedly threw fish at the senior government officer. In a video clip aired by local news channels, Rane was purportedly seen talking to the fisheries commissioner of Sindhudurg in his office packed. While arguing, he picked up a fish, which was dumped on the commissioner&rsquo;s table and threw it at him.
Rane, however, remained defiant. The MLA from Kankavli in coastal Sindhudurg district said he did so to protest the officer&rsquo;s alleged "ignorant attitude" towards the woes of the fishing community.
