Muslim candidates dominate Congress wins in Assembly polls

A significant share of the Indian National Congress’s winning candidates in recent Assembly polls are Muslims, including 18 of 19 MLAs in Assam, several in Kerala, and both winners in West Bengal

Most of the Congress candidates who won in the recent Assembly elections were Muslism, sources analysing the poll results said. In Assam, 18 out of 19 MLAs that Congress has won are Muslims.

In Kerala as many as 30 MLAs are from the Congress-led UDF alliance. Eight Congress MLAs are Muslims The grand old party won two seats in West Bengal — both of whom are Muslims from Muslim-dominated seats.
