That's what Masterchef India is all about, courtesy judge Akshay Kumar

Tasty dish varna game finish," Akshay Kumar's been screaming for weeks from posters, then on TV promos, before the first season of Masterchef India finally launched on Star Plus last Saturday. Kumar isn't the only judge. There's Kunal Kapoor from the Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon, and Ajay Chopra from The Courtyard Marriott, Goa.

Episodes one and two saw contestants cooking their best dish and being taken on or dropped out. Predictably, there were tears and excitement.

The good part: Kumar is as enthusiastic about eating as he was about performing stunts in his last TV show, Khatron ke Khiladi. The other two chefs are to the point, and far from awed by their superstar co-judge.

The not-so-good partu00a0-- it's probably a little early in the day, but there needs to be more detail into the dishes cooked, and less drama. For instance, the woman from Lucknow who made Sevaiyaan, had Kumar reaching out for a second helping. We wish he'd told us why he liked it so much.u00a0

And enough with the Bollywoodisation! Playing Teri ore from Singh is Kinng as Kumar mock-blindfolds a fan-wannabe contestant who crumples into tears of ecstacy, is silly.u00a0
