According to the police the fraudster committed the crime when Kanitkar was out of town. "The thief used a fabricated driving licence to identify himself as Kanitkar after he secured his birth date and personal details on phone.

Claiming to be the owner of the account he requested ICICI authorities to issue him a new debit card," Chaturshrungi police station API Shaikh told MiD DAY.

According to Shaikh, the person has already been identified from CCTV images and will be nabbed in a couple of days.
