After 19-year-old stunt biker Karan Pandey was killed when police opened fire to stop a group of over 100 motorcyclists from performing stunts in the high-security area of the national capital on Sunday, the city traffic police department have decided to intensify their drives against rash drivers and speed demons in the city. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jul/Stunt.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 406px;" /> Rrepresentation pic Apart from charging such drivers and riders, traffic police have decided to confiscate the offenders&rsquo; vehicles. &ldquo;The chronic problem among Mumbaikars of dangerous driving has been consistent for several years now,&rdquo; said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic). Dighavkar claimed that the police and traffic personnel booked about 1,258 rash drivers in the Western suburbs in the last few days and most of the offenders were booked between Kherwadi and Oshiwara. &ldquo;We have prepared teams to conduct nakabandis at spots like Marine Drive, Carter Road, Kherwadi Junction and Oshiwara Back Road, among others, on the Western Express Highway to nab the speedsters who perform stunts, and commit crimes like bag snatchings on these stretches,&rdquo; he said. A team of traffic police and police officers from selected police stations would be cracking down on stunt riders during late hours of the night, when their menace is at its peak due traffic-free roads. A traffic police official said most of the speedsters took to the roads after 11 pm and have been responsible for a lot of fatalities. &ldquo;Last year there were a series of accidents in the city due to rash driving, so this year we decided to nab as many rash drivers and stunt riders as we can,&rdquo; the official said. The drive would be intensified during the festival season as well when youngsters set out on two-wheelers in groups, travelling triple seat. &ldquo;Overloading of vehicle leads to accidents.
