The probe will look into matters of employees who were hired without proper educational qualification

A preliminary enquiry has been initiated against unknown officials of the organising committee of the commonwealth games (CWG) in connection with the irregularities in hiring of various employees from 2003-09.
The enquiry has been initiated on the basis that some of the employees were hired with no educational qualification just because they were close to the organising committee chairman, Suresh Kalmadi.u00a0"We are likely to probe the links between the former OC chairperson, Suresh Kalmadi and some employees who didn't have the required educational qualifications but were still appointed at various posts," a senior CBI official said.

Suresh Kalmadi is already behind bars in connection with the irregularities in the contracts awarded for the 2010 mega-event. Kalmadi was caught for an alleged TSR (timing scoring and result) equipment scam. He faces charges of conspiracy and cheating under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Though a preliminary enquiry has been initiated for now, sources said that a case is likely to be registered regarding the same very soon. "We have found some discrepancies in the initial enquiry and are sure that a case will be lodged in the matter," the sources added. There were also reports about CVC having received several complaints regarding ghost employees in the CWG scam.

"There were several discrepancies in the employees' list of the commonwealth games which was provided to the Central Vigilance Commission after the scam had been broken. There were many names in the list which never existed hence pointing towards ghost employees," the sources said.u00a0 Sources said that there will be some new turns in the CWG scam in the near future and the probe may intensify.
