Two Delhi ministers raise serious questions over the work underway for Games

Nothing seems to be going right with the Commonwealth Games 2010 preparedness. Two Delhi ministers Dr AK Walia, urban development and finance and Arvinder Singh Lovely, education and transport, visited the Games sites and nearby areas on Thursday and raised serious questions on the work being carried out at various locations.

The ministers visited Vikas Marg, ITO Chungi, Marginal Bund Road leading to Akshardham Temple, road leading to Games Village, NH-24, Ghazipur Crossing, under-construction flyover on Road No.56 & 57, Road near Anand Vihar Rail Terminal and Yamuna Sports Complex.u00a0

What they saw:u00a0
* Threat to the plants on the central verge of Vikas Marg due to unplanned pedestrian movement.

* At the Games Village and Yamnua Sports Complex the ministers were visibly upset with the mounds of garbage and construction waste lying around.

* The ministers also noticed that the roads around Akshardham Crossing were not even and looked shabby due to dumps of construction material.

* The Akshardham Metro Station bore an unpleasantu00a0 appearance and looked completely unprepared for Games.

* The road leading to Games Village was full of potholes and appeared below par for all accounts.

* All around the Games Village and Sports Complex a large number of unfinished and unattended works were noticed.

* Construction waste again awaited the ministers on the NH-24 leading to Ghaziabad.u00a0

* Huge congestion was noticed on the road from Ghazipur Crossing to Yamuna Sports Complex. This is a known traffic congestion point in the city on a vital road which connects Delhi to Ghaziabad and east Delhi.

* No trace of greenery was noticed on Yamuna Sports Complex and the DDA swmming pool is still far from completion.
