CNG prices in Delhi and adjoining cities rose by Rs 3.89 per kg from Saturday, taking the price of the fuel in Delhi to Rs 86.98 per kg. The increase has prompted transport bodies to demand an immediate hike in autorickshaw and taxi fares, with unions warning of a strike on September 9 if their demands are not addressed.

The Auto Rickshaw Association and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union said the latest increase has added to the financial burden on drivers already dealing with rising operating costs. The union has sought a fare revision within a week and has also demanded a subsidy on CNG prices as an alternative.
