A police officer shot himself fatally with his service revolver in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi on Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Vijay Singh and was posted as a sub-inspector in Sarojini Nagar police station. He shot himself with his service revolver at point-blank range at his residence in Commercial Complex Apartment at Uttam Nagar.

The incident took place in the evening and a PCR call was made at around 9.45pm by family members of the deceased. He was immediately rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors. "No suicide note was found from the spot, so the reason behind the incident is not yet clear," said a police official.

"Sub-inspector Vijay Singh was posted with Sarojni Nagar police station and lived in Uttam Nagar area. We are investigating the case," said V Ranganathan, DCP, West District .
