The killing of a dreaded terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir may not make for interesting reading all by itself, but you might get curious to hear that the joint operation was carried out by the Indian army and the Delhi police Special Cell.
"Our team pin-pointed the house in the area and the terrorist. Then the army moved in and asked the suspects to surrender. But the suspects opened fire on the team and in the joint operation with Rashtriya Rifles, a terrorist died and three others were 0arrested.
Later the deceased was identified as Umar Khitab, a Pakistani national and area commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Poonch. One of those arrested has been identified as Zubair, who was the right hand of Umar. The rest of the accused are being questioned by the army," said a Delhi police officer.
The Delhi police special cell was tapping the mobile of the terrorist for the last one year, but the location of his hideout was so isolated that it was hard to find a phone network.
"It was a difficult job. We were tapping his phone for the last one year and in this period he changed his location several times. When we found that the suspect had been staying at one location for a long time we immediately sent a team to Jammu and Kashmir to assist the army in identifying the accused. The consistency in the technical surveillance brought such an achievement to the Special Cell," the officer added.
Sources in the Special Cell said that the army and local intelligence officers were astonished when they saw the Delhi police hunting down notorious terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, as the suspect was wanted by the local police and army intelligence.
