The complainant and eye-witness in the case, a 28-year-old software engineer, refuted the contentions of accused Mukesh and Sharma, saying he had, on an earlier occasion, identified the bus and even the accused who were present in it that night. During the hearing, Mukesh&#39;s counsel contended that his client was not involved in the gangrape and had neither beaten the youth nor robbed the victims. Sharma&#39;s counsel claimed that client was not in the bus at the time of the incident and was at a music function in south Delhi. The 23-year-old woman was brutally tortured and gangraped in the bus by five men and a juvenile. She later died in a Singapore hospital. The juvenile is facing proceedings before a Juvenile Justice Board, while the four other accused were put up for trial in the fast track court.
