A woman and her two-year-old son reportedly died in Delhi of suffocation after inhaling smoke from a coal stove that had filled the room they were sleeping, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-gang-luring-people-with-loans-under-pradhan-mantri-mudra-yojana-busted-10-held-by-andheri-police-23332080" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">police</a> said on Monday, reported the PTI.
Her husband and her two other children are being treated at the Safdarjung hospital in the national capital, as per the PTI.
On Sunday at 6.16 am, Delhi Police were informed about their condition and they were rushed to the hospital from South Delhi's Maidan Garhi area, officials said.
According to the PTI, the woman identified as Anjali (23) and her son Shambhu allegedly died during treatment, they said. Two other children aged - 6 and 4-year-old are hospitalised.
The police said that it is suspected that smoke from the coal brazier, or "angithi", filled the unventilated room in the intervening night Saturday and Sunday.
People usually light these stoves to keep themselves warm during winters.
No foul play is suspected and inquest proceedings have been initiated under Code of Criminal Procedure section 174, an official said, the news agency reported on Monday.
The family lived in a rented accommodation in Asola, police said and added that it has been their residence for the last two years.
Dinesh, they said, worked as a gardener at a farmhouse in the Maidan Garhi area.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a couple in their 40s died of suffocation reportedly due to burning firewood in room in Rajasthan's Kota earlier this month, the police had said, reported the PTI.
The couple was found dead with burnt-out firewood beneath a pot of non-veg curry nearby in their room, police said, as per the PTI.
The incident had taken place under the Kishorepura police station area in a marriage garden where the man worked as a guard.
The couple was most likely <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-crime-face-wrapped-in-tape-doctor-suffocated-to-death-23285836" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">suffocated to death due to smoke</a> in the unventilated room, police said.
The couple was identified as Laxman Koli (45) and his wife Chanda (40). They had been living in Kota for the last 20 years and the man was working as a guard in the marriage garden in the Banjara Colony.
The two bodies were found lying side-by-side on the floor and burnt-out firewood with a pot of non-veg curry nearby them in the room when its door was broken open on Thursday morning, Kishorepura police station SHO Harlal Meena had said.
