That is the conclusion of a detailed study by the MCD; number of cases now 2371 Don't feel like going out today? Well the idea may not find favour with your boss, but the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will appreciate the sentiment. That's because a detailed study of dengue patients by the civic agency has revealed that students and persons who go out for jobs or businesses are most susceptible to the disease. With 75 people testing positive on Monday, the number of dengue cases in the Capital this season is now 2371. And authorities are considering preventive measures. "Analysis of data of 1000 patients available indicates that out of them, 674 were male and 326 female. The largest number - 758 - belongs to the age group of 11-40," said V K Monga, Chairman of MCD's Public Health Committee. "It indicates that people who spend time outside their homes are more prone to dengue," he added. "It is hard to comment on that. We are getting cases of housewives too," said Dr NP Singh, professor, Medicine, Lok Nayak Hospital. The Capital has reported five dengue deaths this season. South Delhi continues to be the worst affected recording 364 cases, followed by MCD Civil Lines Zone (332), Central Zone (286) and Rohini (273). Civic bodies are attributing the rapid rise in dengue cases this season to prolonged monsoon and stagnation of water at Commonwealth Games construction sites. The dengue outbreak has also raised concerns among several countries that are sending teams to participate in the Games to be held next month. 758u00a0The number of dengue patients in Delhi, belonging to the age group of 11-40 years. BOOMING BUSINESS On Friday, India issued a health advisory on dengue for participants and visitors of the Games asking them to carry full-sleeved clothes and mosquito-repellent creams, mats and coil before leaving for India. They have been asked to use commercially available repellent, and not to leave the doors and windows open during daytime to prevent mosquitoes from entering the rooms. All arrangements have been made to thwart any possible strikes. However, makers of mosquito repellents, coils, mats, liquid vapourisers and lotions, are already making a killing. They admit to a significant increase in sales, although their 'conscience' restrains them from celebrating their recent good fortune.
