A senior citizen from Kurla was duped when a young girl claiming to be from Mahanagar Gas asked her for Rs 200, saying that a serviceman would visit them within two days. Pic/Sayed Sameer Abedi When nobody showed up from the firm, the family called up the phone number on the receipt and realised they had been duped when nobody answered. Kanta Ruchani (71) said, &ldquo;I was alone when the girl came to my house. She kept insisting that we had got the servicing done last year for Rs 100 and that the fee had doubled this year. I clearly remembered we&rsquo;d never got any servicing done. When I got a bit suspicious she took out her identity card and flashed it before me. I gave in to her persistent claim and handed her Rs 200, and she gave me a receipt.&rdquo; When Ruchani&rsquo;s son Mukesh came home that evening and learnt what had happened, he called up the numbers on the receipt. &ldquo;While one of the numbers was switched off, nobody responded on the other despite my countless calls. I decided to wait till Saturday but when no one turned up I was confident that we had been cheated.&rdquo; Mukesh even visited the address mentioned on the receipt but it turned out to be fake. &ldquo;I approached the Nehru Nagar police and they noted down my complaint.&rdquo; An official from Mahanagar Gas Ltd said, &ldquo;Cases of people being cheated in the name of our company have been brought to our notice. We are trying to create awareness among people by releasing notices. People have also been informed that we do not take cash payments and they should not make any such payments in our name.&rdquo;u00a0
