A jeweller on Richmond Road has approached the police with CCTV footage of how he was cheated

A jeweller donated Rs 50 to a man who sought alms, and lost a diamond pendant in the process.

Anup Kumar Jain, owner of Kothari Jewellers on Richmond Road, gave Rs 50 to two men who came to his shop with a note saying they were deaf and dumb.

The letter, in English, said they were orphaned brothers. It claimed they were poor and had two blind sisters and a handicapped younger brother to support.

Moved by their plight, Jain offered them Rs 50, and they left thanking him profusely.

Seconds later, Jain reportedly noticed a diamond pendant missing from his showcase. He had been taking stock of his jewellery when the two had entered his shop.

Jain immediately checked his CCTV and reportedly found one of the two men slipping the pendant into his pocket when he had turned back to get Rs 50 from the cash box.

He has filed a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police. His stocks are insured. The police are looking at the video footage.

A chartered accountant in SR Nagar similarly lost his laptop recently.

A man claming to be deaf approached his office and was given some money. When the accountant came back to his office, he reportedly noticed his laptop missing from his table.
