Rakesh Salaskar (28) was looking forward to getting married to his fianc&eacute;e Namrata Parab (28) on April 24. However, two days before their engagement, the Lalbaug-resident was told that the venue of their wedding has to be used for elections on the same day.

&ldquo;The date was finalised after consulting a priest and we booked the hall of a private school in Sion. We had informed our relatives and were planning get the wedding cards printed as well,&rdquo; said Rakesh.
On January 18, Salaskar family had engaged the venue and paid R22,000 as booking amount to the school. The balance amount of around R1 lakh was to be paid after the wedding, which included catering, decoration of the hall, etc.
On March 7, Rakesh, a cameraman at a private news channel, and Namrata, an accountant in a private firm, visited Babulnath temple, two days before their engagement. As they left the temple, Rakesh got a call from his father, saying that the school management has cancelled their booking.
&ldquo;I was shocked to hear the news; my fianc&eacute;e was upset too. Nevertheless, we decided to postpone our date of wedding and change the venue as well,&rdquo; said Rakesh.
The groom-to-be said that thankfully his in-laws understood the situation and agreed to postpone the date. Post-cancellation, the school management has returned the booking amount. The couple is now planning to get married on May 11 and the family has booked a hall in Matunga.
