A female police constable was assaulted by her inebriated senior officer on Saturday night around 9 pm, after it was revealed that she had filed an RTI query about his stay in the Shivajinagar police quarters.

Reserve Police Sub-Inspector Machindra Shinde has been booked under section 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the IPC.

Constable Jayshree Mane (34) has lodged the complaint against Shinde at Shivajinagar police station.

According to the police, Mane resides in the police quarters at Shivajinagar, which is meant only for police personnel of lower rank. Mane had sought information through an RTI application because she felt that Shinde was not eligible to use these quarters.

Infuriated over this query, Shinde assaulted Mane just outside the gate of the Police Headquarters at Shivajinagar on Saturday night.

According to senior officers from Shivajinagar police station, after Mane’s official complaint against him, Shinde has now left the  quarters. No officer was willing to come on record about the possibility of further action against Shinde.
