Food inflation drops marginally to 16.81 per cent

India's annual food inflation based on the wholesale price index dropped marginally to 16.81 percent for the week ended Jan 9 from 17.28 percent the week before, according to official statistics released Thursday.

Some essential items still remain costly, with potatoes dearer by 49.31 percent, pulses by 47.9 percent, and onions by 15.26 percent over a 52-week period.
