The green signal will be on for a longer time during peak hours because commuters coming from Shivajinagar side will no longer be able to take a right turn to the University.u00a0 u00a0The green signal will prolong for an additional 25 seconds for the vehicles coming from and going towards Aundh, Pashan, Baner and Senapati Bapat Road. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil said, "Considering the flow of traffic from all sides, it was observed that only a few people used the right-turn to go to the University gate. The time required for these vehicles unnecessarily delayed other vehicles' movements." Entrance to UoP "Commuters, especially those coming from Shivajinagar side, will have to go straight from the University junction, take a U-turn and come back and enter the university by taking a left turn," DCP Patil said. "To avoid this extra bit of commuting, we have asked the University to allow commuters to enter through the gate at the Chatuhshrungi police station. This would save time as well as the fuel of the commuters." DCP Patil also spoke about decongestion of University junction needing an integrated plan and solution. "Many have given good suggestions on the Facebook page of Pune Traffic Police. Besides these, suggestions have been invited from all concerned people on Monday at a meeting that would be conducted around 5pm," he said. Techies to benefit Ganeshkhind road, Pashan and Aundh road experience heavy congestion during peak hours everyday. The commuters mainly comprise of car owners going to several IT hubs in the city. They will largely benefit from the decongestion measures at University junction. Dilip Shekhawat (26) an IT Professional residing at Bhosale Nagar, said, "Traffic congestion really takes most of my time and I have to start out quite early while going to the office. Anybody travelling to Hinjewadi or other areas inadvertently uses the University junction. So, smooth flow of traffic is the need of hour, especially on these roads. Police should urgently take some measures to decongest the roads."
