Former Vice President of India <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/president-accepts-resignation-of-vp-jagdeep-dhankar-rs-chair-informs-house-23585896" rel="nofollow">Jagdeep </a><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/president-accepts-resignation-of-vp-jagdeep-dhankar-rs-chair-informs-house-23585896" rel="nofollow">Dhankhar</a>, who quit in July, is yet to be provided with an official residence, people close to him said on Tuesday.
Dhankar, while quitting from the post of Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, cited health reasons. Jagdeep Dhankar submitted his resignation soon after the proceedings of day 1 of the Monsoon Session of Parliament ended in 2025.&nbsp;
Weeks later, in September, he vacated the Vice President's Enclave, the official residence of the vice president, and moved to a private farmhouse in south Delhi's Chhatarpur area, reported PTI.&nbsp;
The farmhouse in the Gadaipur area of Chhatarpur belongs to INLD leader Abhay Chautala. Furthermore, on August 22, Dhankhar wrote to the Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, requesting an official residence for former vice presidents.
Addressing that Jagdeep Dhankar has not yet been provided government accommodation, a person close to him highlighted, "But so far, he has not been provided with an accommodation he is entitled to," as cited by news agency PTI.&nbsp;
<h2 class="pf0">Jagdeep Dhankar to be given a type-VIII bungalow&nbsp;</h2>
As a former vice president, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/breaking-jagdeep-dhankhar-resigns-from-the-post-of-vice-president-of-india-23585797" rel="nofollow">Dhankhar</a><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/breaking-jagdeep-dhankhar-resigns-from-the-post-of-vice-president-of-india-23585797" rel="nofollow"> </a>is entitled to a pension of nearly Rs 2 lakh per month, a type VIII bungalow, one personal secretary, one additional personal secretary, one personal assistant, one physician, one nursing officer, and four personal attendants. After a former vice president dies, his or her spouse is entitled to a smaller type VII house, reported PTI.&nbsp;
<h2 class="pf0">Jagdeep Dhankar also applied for MLA pension</h2>
Soon after submitting his resignation in August from the Rajya Sabha, citing health reasons, former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar also applied for resumption of his MLA pension.
The Rajasthan Assembly did begin processing his application, making him entitled to multiple pensions, including as a former MP and vice-president.
Jagdeep Dhankhar represented the Kishangarh Assembly constituency as a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/opinion/article/what-jagdeep-dhankhars-silence-means-for-us-23586775" rel="nofollow">Congress MLA</a> from 1993 to 1998. As reported by news agency PTI, Jagdeep Dhankhar received a pension as a former legislator until July 2019. However, the pension was discontinued after he was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal.
Officials said, &ldquo;With his tenure as the Vice-President ending following his resignation on July 21, former Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has applied afresh to the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat seeking resumption of his pension as a former MLA,&rdquo; as cited by news agency PTI.
