<div><b><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">Former Congress corporator from Yerawada also joins Wadgaon Sheri Vikas Aghadi formed by disgruntled NCP leaders</span></b></div><div><br /></div><div><div>Four sitting NCP corporators and two cadres yesterday quit the party and formed a separate outfit for the Wadgaon Sheri area along with a former Congress corporator.u00a0The Wadgaon Sheri Vikas Aghadi was formed by sitting corporators Bhimrao Kharat from Vimanagar, Hanif Shaikh from Yerawada, Sunil Tingre from Dhanori and Alka Khade from Vishrantwadi, and party workers Raosaheb Khandagale and Kavita Tingre.u00a0</div><div><br /></div><div>John Paul, a former Congress corporator from Yerawada, also joinedu00a0the outfit.u00a0The reason cited for the rebellion is the NCP's refusal to give tickets to the sitting corporators despite their years of development work.u00a0</div><div><br /></div><div><b>'NCP tickets for rich'</b></div><div>"The party has preferred newcomers and rich candidates over us, which clearly shows the party only wants candidates with a fat wallet. We have been working with the people in the area for years and this step-motherly treatment is not acceptable. We have no other option but to form a new party," said Khandagale.u00a0</div><div><br /></div><div>Kharat said that the party had completely ignored the five years of work done by him in the area.u00a0"It has completely discredited the voter connect and support base cultivated over the last several years," said Kharat.u00a0</div><div>The outfit will field one candidate each in Panels 1, 3, 4, 5, 14 and 16. Each of these panels also has at leastu00a0</div><div>one seat reservedu00a0for women after 50 per cent reservation for women in the civic polls, which was announced last year.u00a0</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Party stand</b></div><div>Defending the party choice of candidates, NCP city chief Vandana Chavan said most sitting male candidates had already lost their seats to women's reservation.u00a0"This time too, our candidate list is a judicious as includes people from all walks of life. We have not givenu00a0preference to their economic status.u00a0</div><div><br /></div><div>Out of the 152 NCP candidates, about 70 are postgraduates, which includes some doctors and lawyers also. Some of them also come from a humble socio-economic background. The party does not undermine sitting corporators' contribution, but new entrants should also be given an opportunity to prove themselves.
