Their modus operandi was simple, and their victims were often too embarrassed to even approach the cops. The Kandivli police have nabbed a gang of crooks that used girls to lure victims and then loot them of their valuables. Among those arrested are two 17-year-old girls. Motley crew: The Kandivli police with the crooks who were arrested According to the police, the operation was carried out after a complaint from 26-year-old Hitesh Khedekar, a manager at a private firm. The complainant said he was in touch with a call girl named Muskan Pathan, who was arrested in January by the Dindoshi police for a similar offence. Police Inspector Babasaheb Salunkhe from Kandivli said that on Monday Khedekar called up Pathan, asking her to come to a guesthouse at Aksa in Malad (West). Since Pathan was busy, she gave Khedekar the number of another girl Sanjana (name changed as she is a juvenile). Khedekar called up the girl and fixed a meeting, agreeing to collect her from outside Kandivli railway station. Police officers said that Khedekar picked up Sanjana and was on his way to Aksa in an autorickshaw when Sanjana asked him to halt the rickshaw, ostensibly to meet a few friends outside Raghuleela Mall. Suddenly, a gang of six people, including a woman, got off a Tavera (MH 04 CD 9720), cornered Khedekar and began assaulting him, accusing him of kidnapping Sanjana and attempting to rape her. Sanjana too played along, crying out for help. The gang looted Khedekar’s belongings worth Rs 10,000, following which he approached the police. Number’s up! When the the police began tracing the number from which Sanjana had once called the victim, they learnt that the SIM card was registered in the name of one Yogesh. During questioning, the latter, a resident of Nalasopara, said that he too was looted by Sanjana and her gang in a similar manner, but did not lodge a complaint, as he was embarrassed. Police officers added that when they did not get any leads, they got the call detail records (CDR) of Sanjana’s phone number. “Through this, we managed to reach a house in Malad (East) owned by a lady named Parmar, who ran a sex racket there. Parmar told us that Pathan and Sanjana worked for her,” said API Ravindra Kshirsagar from the Kandivli police station. The police then got the Nalasopara address of Sanjana through Parmar, and the officers raided the house on Friday, managing to arrest Sanjana and her gang members, identified as Ajay Parmar, Vijay Parmar, Noor Alam Mullah and three other minors — including a girl — for robbery and assault. Two others — Pathan and one Kamlesh Gupta — are absconding.u00a0
