Indian cricket team head coach and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has once again become the target of threats, as per a report by PTI. Authorities in New Delhi have confirmed that Gambhir received two threatening emails earlier this week, triggering an immediate response from local law enforcement.

The emails were received on 22nd April – the same day a tragic terrorist attack unfolded in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where 26 individuals, most of them tourists, were brutally gunned down. The timing of the threats has added a sense of urgency and gravity to the matter, with investigators treating the situation with the highest level of seriousness.

A senior police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, informed PTI that the complaint was registered at the Rajinder Nagar police station. “We have received a formal complaint regarding the threats. An investigation has been launched, and cyber experts are currently tracing the origin of the emails, which were sent from a suspicious Gmail account,” the official said.

This is not the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. In 2022, he received similar menacing messages, which led to enhanced security arrangements around him. At the time, central security agencies were alerted, and his security cover was reportedly upgraded. The mail said, "We intended to kill you, but you survived yesterday. If you love the life of your family, stay away from politics and the Kashmir issue." A video containing footage from outside his residence is also attached with the second threat e-mail. Gambhir informed the police about the threat mail which was received after security was tightened outside his home. DCP Central, Shweta Chauhan had told ANI earlier that Gautam Gambhir has submitted a written complaint about the death threat received by him. "He has received the threat on his official email id. The security has been increased outside his residence," she said.

"We are going to kill you and your family," read the threat email received from 'ISIS Kashmir'. The senior officials of Delhi Police said that the complaint has been marked to the Cyber Cell of the Special Cell to know the source of the mail. Further investigation is being carried out.

Gambhir, known for his outspoken nature both on and off the cricket field, has remained active in public life even after retiring from professional cricket. His political tenure as a BJP MP from East Delhi and subsequent appointment as head coach of Team India have kept him in the public spotlight. The dual role may have also contributed to his being targeted multiple times in recent years.
