Ten days ago 21-year-old Anuradha Bhavsar walked into Andheri&rsquo;s Criticare Hospital, certain that she would return home after doctors assured that her ailment was a minor medical condition, which could be treated and cured. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/aug/Anuradha-Bhavsar.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 401px;" /> Gone too soon: A resident of Four Bungalows in Andheri (W), Anuradha Bhavsar was admitted to Criticare hospital in Andheri (W) on July 29 after an X-ray revealed a tumour above her left kidney Yesterday, at 6.10 am, the young girl passed away leaving her family shattered who are now alleging that a medical error may have led to the death of their loved one. A resident of Four Bungalows in Andheri (W), Anuradha was admitted in the hospital after an X-ray revealed a tumour -- the size of a football -- above her left kidney. She was admitted on July 29, and was operated upon the same day. The family alleges that the doctors had assured them that she would recover within two days since it was a minor operation. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/aug/tumour.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 352px;" /> &ldquo;We trusted the doctors when they said it was a minor case, but now realise that believing them was the biggest mistake. This is not the first incident from our housing society wherein the patient hasn&rsquo;t survived while receiving treatment here. Anuradha was the soul of the family,&rdquo; said Abhijeet Bhavsar, the deceased&rsquo;s brother. &ldquo;A few days after she was admitted, I had even visited another hospital in the city on August 5 to get a second opinion on my sister&rsquo;s ailment. They also said that her condition was not serious and hence it was a minor case,&rdquo; added Abhijeet. Medical negligence? According to the family, the operation was conducted at 4.30 pm on the day she was admitted to the hospital. Anuradha was feeling better after the operation, but started experiencing unbearable pain at 5 am on July 30, after which she called the doctor to say that she wasn&rsquo;t able to bear the throbbing pain. The family says that the doctor then administered a painkiller due to which she fell asleep. But the injection didn&rsquo;t provide her any relief because after two hours, she again complained of severe pain. Observing that the patient might have started to bleed internally, the doctors shifted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctors then cut open the stomach in order to stop the intensive internal bleeding. Anuradha was put on a ventilator on August 1 and was conscious till August 5 and was operated upon thrice during her stay at the hospital. Rajendra Chavan, senior police inspector, D N Nagar, said, &ldquo;We have registered the case as accidental death. Since the family has alleged a case of medical negligence, further investigations would be conducted only after we receive the reports from JJ Hospital.&rdquo; The Other Side Hospital authorities, however, said that all possible efforts were made to save Anuradha&rsquo;s life, claiming that a team of six to seven doctors was called upon to treat her when her condition deteriorated two days ago. Dr Hemal Bhagat, Laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgeon, who treated Anuradha, said, &ldquo;There was a tumor the size of a football over her left kidney. It was a major surgery and she had responded to it very well, but later things got worse and we had to cut her open to check for any internal vessel tear, but nothing was noticed and hence we stitched her up. The bleeding had stopped three days ago, but due to the DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation) her condition became grave.&rdquo; Bhagat continued, &ldquo;The hospital and I tried my best to treat her and I am also in a state of shock wherein my patient has died at such a tender age.&rdquo; Speaking on allegations made by the family of not taking them into confidence before the operation, Bhagat said, &ldquo;I have been in constant touch with them and had explained to them the situation and the condition of the girl at every stage of the treatment.&rdquo;u00a0
