Following the death of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/bollywood-news/article/meri-awaaz-hi-pehchan-hai-hindi-songs-that-defined-lata-mangeshkar-23213080" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Lata Mangeshkar</a>, condolences poured in from across the world as international leaders paid their tribute to the most-loved voice of India.
Lata Mangeshkar's demise has created a "great void in the subcontinent's musical arena", Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday as she condoled the death of the "empress of music".
In a condolence message, Hasina said Mangeshkar will remain alive forever in the hearts of the people in the region through her work.
"A great void has been created in the subcontinent's musical arena with the demise of the 'Sur Samraggi (empress of music)'," the prime minister said, praying for the salvation of the departed soul and conveying her deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In a separate message, President Abdul Hamid also expressed his profound sorrow on the death of the legendary singer and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
Lata Mangeshkar touched billions of hearts through her golden and unparalleled voice, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said on Sunday as he paid tribute to India's "Queen of Music" who "gave life to the phrase 'music is a universal language'".
Mangeshkar is a legend whose memory will remain in our midst for centuries through her melodious voice, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa tweeted.
"Rest In Peace Srimathi #LataMangeshkar, India's Queen of Music who touched billions of hearts through her golden and unparalleled voice," he said, sharing a photograph of the legendary singing icon.

Expressing his deepest condolences to her family and the people of India, the prime minister, the elder brother of president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said Mangeshkar's memory will live through her music.
The main Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa also expressed his deepest condolences to Mangeshkar's family.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan also expressed his condolences for the passing of Lata Mangeshkar. "With the death of Lata Mangeshkar the subcontinent has lost one of the truly great singers the world has known. Pakistan's Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday paid <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/article/she-ruled-the-world-of-music-pak-minister-on-lata-mangeshkars-demise---------23213066" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">tributes</a> to Mageshkar, saying she has ruled the world of music for decades and the magic of her voice will live forever.
&ldquo;Lata Mangeshkar's death marks the end of an era in music. Lata ruled the world of music for decades and the magic of her voice will live forever,&rdquo; tweeted Chaudhry in a condolence message in Urdu from Beijing, where he is currently part of a delegation led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
&ldquo;Wherever Urdu is spoken and understood, there are crowds of people saying goodbye to Lata Mangeshkar," he said.
He also tweeted separately in English, saying, "a legend is no more. Lata Mageshkar was a melodious queen who ruled the world of music for decades. She was the uncrowned queen of music. Her voice shall keep ruling the hearts of people for all times to come.&rdquo;
Her death was trending on Twitter and almost all TV channels were running the news of her death along with a potpourri of all-time hit songs.

Lata Mangeshkar was conferred the highest French civilian honour, Officier de la legion d'Honnneur, in 2009. French diplomat and Ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenain said he was deeply saddened by the iconic singer's demise and offered his condolences to her fans all over the world.
