Going green for Diwali

The Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) of many Delhi areas have decided to contribute positively this Diwali, by refraining from burning crackers.

In a bid to go green and make the festive season a peaceful event, the RWAs of East of Kailash, Greater Kailash, Mayur Vihar, Lajpat Nagar and other societies have kept 'Save Earth' as the theme.

KK Mittal, general-secretary, RWA, East of Kailash, said, "We want this Diwali to be eco-friendly. We have appealed to children to not burn any crackers. We will go for a traditional Diwali, with only lamps and candles for celebration."

Another RWA member, Hari Gola, Mayur Vihar, said, "We will organise a Diwali mela in the coming days, which will have absolutely no crackers."
