In its biggest ever investment in India, tech giant Google on Tuesday said it will invest $15 billion in building an AI infrastructure hub in Andhra Pradesh, which would include a gigawatt-scale data centre in partnership with Adani Group. The project is expected to create 5000-6000 direct jobs and 20,000-30,000 total jobs in Andhra Pradesh.

The AI hub at Visakhapatnam will be Google’s largest outside the US and will include a data centre fuelled by clean energy and a fiber-optic network. The $15 billion will be invested over the next five years (2026-2030). Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called the pact the biggest technological milestone for the state and country. Naidu noted that this isn’t just a Google project, but also Andhra Pradesh’s, adding India’s AI journey has begun and the state will lead it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the launch of the Google AI Hub will be a powerful force in democractising technology. Modi said the multi-faceted investment that includes gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure aligns with the government’s vision to build a Viksit Bharat.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he shared the details and discussed the project with PM Modi and highlighted how it will help accelerate AI innovation and support India’s growing digital economy.

“This hub combines gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure. Through it we will bring our industry-leading technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the country,” Pichai said in a post on X.
